Welcome!
I'm Frugal Trenches (no, not my real name!) a lover of natural, simple and frugal living! I use this space and my camera to document a beautiful, purposeful, downshifted and abundant life! Life is not always simple (oh how I wish it was!) but it is always rich and I hope this space demonstrates beauty and joy!
If you have a question, feel free to leave it in the comments! I read and appreciate every comment and will reply to questions within the comment section, even if it takes a day or two (or three, but whose counting!).

To My Little Boy
I wish life were easier for you. I wish your past hadn’t left you so traumatized and hurt that you needed to live in a make-believe land. I wish when I told you I was your Mama forever, you didn’t … Continue reading
52 Weeks of Happiness: Week Three
So much about this week made me understand where my happiness lies. It is found in simplicity. In sitting at the table and colouring with my children. Going for hikes. Cuddling in the morning. Reading stories. Making good food for … Continue reading
Day 18: Month of Nothing
I am not sure how I’ll ever pull myself away. Yesterday was one of those days where I wished time could stand still. There were no luxuries, a small shop was finished {being sick is expensive!}, but we had the … Continue reading
Our Best Activity So Far This Week
Lately I’ve ended each day asking my children a couple of philosophy type questions like “how do you know you are awake” and “what is the purpose of life”. Their faces are precious as I ask what they see as “very … Continue reading
Day Nine: Month Of Nothing
We had a tough night here. My daughter was needing to talk about her life experiences, and I was coughing up a storm {btw thanks to all of you who left recipes for homemade drinks and remedies – I’ve tried … Continue reading
Why I’m Loving My Son’s Mismatched Snow Suit
Recently I posted a picture of my little boy running through the snow in his snowsuit. It was taken after we spent a Sunday afternoon at a hiking trail enjoying a nice snow hike. If you look closely, you may … Continue reading
Year In Review – Part II
Earlier in the week I did a bit more of an emotive look back at the year. On a friend’s blog (can I link to it C our J?) I saw more of a real review and I thought I’d join … Continue reading
Monday Musings
I don’t know what to do with this blog. There I said it. I really feel, conflicted at times. I’m drawn more and more to personal finance and simple living again (especially in our current situation) and yet I hear … Continue reading
Life and Homework
This year we seem to be hitting a groove with homework. Through trial and error, we are finding what works for our family and also meets the expectations of school. In my children’s previous families, homework was never done. Because … Continue reading
Gentle Parenting
I mentioned yesterday that I have a newfound committment to gentle living. It isn’t something I haven’t been striving to do, but now I understand I don’t want to simply do something gentle, instead I’m hoping to live a gentle life. I was … Continue reading
