Reclaiming Simple Sundays

It feels good, very very good, to once again be approaching Sundays with the belief they need reclaiming. It was with me from the moment I got out of bed this morning “make this one different, Frugal Trenches. Go back to what you believe in“. That whisper guided me through the day. And it meant, as I sat for a few moments peace before the children were up, I added in very important things onto the daily list like: go for a hike with the children, pray together, laugh together. And laugh we did.

After we sat down to a bowl of porridge topped with fruit and fairtrade chocolate chips, and a story about Jesus’ birth, we headed out for a beautiful walk in the woods. The mild weather was good to us and we ventured for a good couple of hours. We watched the creek’s water move rapidly and learned about trees and skipped and jumped and lived. Really lived.  And after sickness this week, those cobwebs really needed dusting. Then groceries were purchased for the week ($45!!!) and we headed home and snuggled with lunch watching the rest of “It’s A Wonderful Life”, before heading out to swimming lessons and enjoying a relaxing Sunday evening meal with stories. We did get some work in. I declared 3:30 – 4:00 Sunday cleaning blitz, with everyone helping. And, with an unexpected visitor needing to stay tonight, everyone helped this evening too as we made a bed up, and then proceeded to have to make mummy’s bed with new sheets as well, as the feral kitten we rescued decided to use mine as a loo. Oh my!

But through it all, despite a bit more to do than I’d like and arthritis pain and some big things looming this week, I was fine, we were fine because our re-set button was pressed. Faith and nature and time together and we could all breathe.

There are moments I will remember forever, and today, seeing my two lovelies skip through puddles, spontaneously hugging on this mild winter day, was etched in my heart as a special one. And as we prayed tonight as a family and I heard my little one’s sweet words, I felt grateful for our cup which runneth over.

I hope your day was lovely and I hope the week which awaits you is kind and gentle.

Happy Reclaimed Simple Sunday.

This sounds like a delightful and nourishing day for everyone. Once, I think, more people had Sundays like this, but somehow everyone allowed things to become too busy. I’m so happy you were aware of what was happening and able to change things. So good for you and your children.
We had a lovely Sunday, too. A visitor from Hungary ( a relative, his father is my husband’s cousin) came and shared old family photos and we sat around the table and told old family stories and were so very happy together. Into my mind pops the old saying about “the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath” though I think that is not quite what was in my mind. But it’s well worth thinking about. The concept of this day of rest and seeing that things are good is an incredible gift!

  2. I’m glad you had a day to refresh, you needed one. Being outdoors in nature always helps me too.

Beautiful post – here we put up the christmas tree , and even my jaded ‘too old for christmas’ teenagers were excited. Watched Arthur Christmas – a movie we saw last xmas eve. I love simple sundays and am glad you are all feeling better x

This is filled with an important reminder. Sometimes when we are disconnected, we need to make connecting a priority! I hope you have a great week, FT!

What a lovely day! (Well, not the kitty loo part, LOL!) I hope your new morning routine went well and that your week will be lovely too. Blessings.

This sounds perfect! Sundays are usually our catch up around the house day/get ready for the week day/ spend time together as a family day as well. Yesterday was not really one of those days as we volunteered at the church for 6 hours. We got the good quality family time in, but the rest went undone and the week has started off not very organized. I hope everyone is feeling better!
