I hit the jackpot yesterday, on our way home from our holiday, we stopped at a village farmer’s market just as it was closing. I received about 50% off all produce and for the sum of $41.50 I was able to get:
- 2 onions (1 red, 1 white)
- Spring onions
- 2 cantaloupes
- 3 peppers
- Large bunch of beets
- Large bunch of radishes
- 2 bunches of carrots
- 2 large broccoli
- Bag of kale
- 2 large baskets of beans (1 green, 1 yellow)
- Rhubarb
- 2 large celery
- 6 corn on the cobs
- 2 large punnets of cherry tomatoes (1 red, 1 yellow)
- 1 large very farmers-market like zucchini (courgette)
- 1 large cucumber
At the market I also purchased: tahini, quinoa and brown rice. My total spend was $53.50. I can honestly say in my city it would have come to 3x that amount!
I still need to purchase: sour cream, apples, bananas, cheese, milk and fish.
Menu Plan for the week:
Sun am - breakfast salad (leftover cous cous, almonds, sunflower seeds, cantaloupe, mozzarella cheese, yellow pepper and a dollop of peanut butter)
Sun lunch – jacket potatoes with salad, apples, hot chocolate
Sun dinner – cheese and potato soup (vegetarian adjustments made), roll, cucumber radish salad,
Mon am – Muffins, cheese, apple, almonds
Mon lunch – tuna sandwich, carrot sticks, leftover soup

Thurs lunch – leftovers, corn on the cob
Thurs dinner – roasted salmon, potato salad, glazed carrots, green beans in garlic.
Friday am – toast with peanut butter, fruit

One of the farmers at the market noted to me “your children really know what good food is” after hearing them discuss making kale smoothies and radish salad. Oh, it made my heart skip a beat

Holy Moley, that’s a lot of food for a little price! Love your meal plan too! Looking forward to the day I can plan more vegetarian meals. Sounds great!
I know I sound like a broken record whenever I leave a comment, but it’s because the same phrase always comes to mind… “I love your blog!” It’s like a breath of fresh air and I find myself constantly going to it for inspiration. Plus, I love your recipe links! I am parenting four children, all with very different needs, and your blog always helps remind me what’s important. Thank you! Leslie =)
Your food looks great, but your menu plan sounds even better – so many delicious and healthy foods! I hope you had a lovely vacation, and that you have a great week now that you’re home.

What a bounty, as they say! You once mentioned the diets your children had prior to their adoption, you must marvel at the change in them! I bet their Dr does too!
