Ch, Ch, Ch, Changes

Things are a changing. In fact, lately it seems like every day is filled with something new, or the anticipation of something new. And some changes are longed for and others more than a bit melancholy producing.  As I write these words, I’m reminded of a favourite quote:

““All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another” Anatole France

  • I found out after my last post that the Simple, Green and Frugal the co-op has been closed. Despite my lack of ability to post often this year (family expansion and all), having been involved since 2008 when it began, I will very much miss writing, the authors involved in the blog and the readers. It was such a rich source of knowledge and I wish everyone well.
  •  My friend leaves on Friday to return to the UK. I shall really miss her and having another adult around
  • Only a little over one more week until our family vacation – though my children, with their history, don’t really understand the idea we will come back. It is a reminder to me that changes are hard for them
  • The Tour de France will end soon – I’m a tad more than a little obsessed and am dreading its ending, though I just remembered the Olympics then begin!
  • My mum is returning to Canada to live!
  • The summer is almost half over – say it isn’t so ;)
  • As we complete our formal adoption process, my children will soon have their new surname!

So many good things. So many.

Wow! Things are indeed changing. I’ve worried about your mother living so far away and having health challenges there too. I’m so glad to hear she will move to Canada and be with you and your children. I’m sure you and the children are looking forward to it.

Just out of curiosity. How are you watching Tour de France without a television? Or do you still enjoy it without watching it?

    • Frugal Trenches says:

You can watch online! There is a cycling website which streams it live for people across the world (different channels for different countries!).

Woohoo. Wonderful that your Mum is coming over for good. And the Olympics are a good way to stave off all the sadness. Maybe you can get your children to count down to when they return home so that they are also looking forward to that. Or maybe it will increase the tension of new things. Only you as their Mum can know best. Cherrie

Wow that is a lot, what a year :)

This has really made me think – after a difficult year for us maybe i should follow your lead and list down the changes (good and bad) so i can evaluate them. Sometimes when life gets hard you can only see the negative change.

    Hi,

I noticed the Simple Green Frugal blog was not getting updated, what happened?! I really enjoyed the blog.

Wonderful news about your mother coming to stay! Hope you have a wonderful family vacation too!

I don’t know Bethany. I received an email along with everyone else that Rhonda decided it would be closed and for most of us, we had already written our last post. I think many people will miss the blog. I’m not sure what was behind the decision, I know the scheduling took time. I wish them all well. I thoroughly enjoyed that space!

Yayyy!! Happy that you’ll have your mom in Canada!! How nice that she’s coming to live here..

New surname.. yayy to new beginnings!

Not happy that the coop is no more! I enjoyed your posts there..

My heart breaks reading that vacations are scary for your kids.. what a trauma they’ve been through,… I do have hopes that one vacation with you, will change it for them. They’ll come back home and realize that they’ll always have a home and mom to come back to..

I love this post, FT. We all have lists that contain things we are anxious (eager) for and things we are anxious (uneasy) about. Yours is laced together with faith and positivity. Hugs to you all.

  9. Jennifer says:

How wonderful that your Mum is moving to Canada, hopefully near you.
While the vacation might be hard on your kids, they will have you with them the whole time and I bet once you get home they will realize how great they are.
