For the next three weeks, our home will include an extra person, so the need to plan meals feels even more crucial. This week I was able to do the weekly shop for $55.17! It included
- 2 baskets of tomatoes
- Cantaloupe
- 10 organic apples
- 4 limes
- 2 lemons
- A large organic spinach pack
- Dandelion greens
- 4 organic majorly on-sale peppers
- 2 red onions
- Calcium & vitamin D fortified orange juice (a very rare treat!)
- Bag of organic avocados
- 12 Free-range eggs
- Organic almonds
- Fairtrade bananas
- 2 jalapeno peppers
- Cilantro paste
- Grain bread
- Organic vegetable stock cubes
We also have a lot of blueberries left from last week (sale @ farmers market!), as well as an assortment of veggies, grains, beans and lentils, and a little harvest from our little community plot!
Meals (lunches & dinners) this week will include:
- Homemade lentil & barley soup with spinach & peas – easiest recipe in the world & my kids love it (I don’t, but I don’t tell them that!
) - Black bean and coconut curry with rice
- Greek spinach and rice with dandelion green salad
- Barley casserole with beet, tomato & avocado salad
- Pesto pasta with spinach salad (will make the pesto myself), fruit
- Salmon, roasted potatoes, peas, grilled zucchini
- Tomato soup with tahini on toast, fruit
- Scrambled egg on toast with spinach, fruit
This week I will also be making blueberry jam, oatmeal muffins, salsa and tomato based pasta sauce.
I’m amazed the shop came in at such a low amount, but very thankful! Lets hope it lasts all week!

I LOVE posts like this! That is the most fantastically priced grocery shop and especially considering so much was fresh and organic!
Your menu is delicious, you are eating like a queen, have a great week!
Agreed! It’s probably easier for you to budget without meats since those are quite expensive! But we’re meat eaters around these parts.
Hi-ho. Just wanted to leave a quick note to say how nice it is to see you blogging again and hearing about how your two children are doing! x

It’s great when food costs are lower than expected. This happened to me on my last shop too
