This Week I…

  • Did an Irish gig when I realized the squirrels would soon be out in full force, not that there are many places to see them around these parts.  I think a visit to High Park is in order! A little birdie told me the Cherry Blossoms will be out in a few weeks, oh yes, in these parts it was snowing up until a week ago!
  • Had a nasty accident which resulted in a concussion, a bruised tailbone, bruised hips and arms that look like I’ve coloured myself in black & blue ink.  Thankfully, even though I was on my own when it happened, I was able to get up after about 15 minutes and hobble, somewhat, to the couch where I stayed for quite some time…
  • Took myself off to see the Jane Eyre film, months of saving up points and politely declining invitations when it wasn’t in the budget, but as it is the last day of the month, I was able to squeeze it in! And it was good, of course any film with Dame Judy Dench in it will be brilliant! Also the young actress who plays Jane as a child was spectacular!  It was, of course, a tad homesick inducing!
  • Realized I’ve begun a new rhythm of hot cocoa & knitting while watching Robin Hood, followed by Lark Rise to Candleford on Saturdays evenings.
  • Have come to see that my natural clock is changing. I’m finding by evening I can not concentrate on anything, so I need to adjust and go to bed earlier and rise earlier. Why do I fight an early bedtime?!
  • Found out a new friend is loaning me a sewing machine for the summer. Joy of joys!
  • Had so much unbloggable crud – well, one main thing that gives me a headache most days, but the internet is just too public, despite how much better I’d feel about it if I was able to be honest about the struggles & the joys…
  • Hardly accomplished any of my goals because of the concussion and basically having a body in pain. But, there is always next week!
  • Came to see just how much I miss this space when I can’t blog…

What was your week like?

OMG poor you it sounds awful! Take care of yourself and don’t worry about those goals!!!

I love the pic of the squirrel!!!!

    • Frugal Trenches says:

Within about an hour I realized every goal was off the list, this week was about survivial! Thanks for the kind wishes!

  2. Francesca T says:

I love your taste in films and books, it is like amirrorimage formmy own bookshelf ! Cheers, Francesca.

PS Where do you stand on ” Anne of Green Gables ” ?

    • Frugal Trenches says:

I was privvy last week to a massive debate about Anne of Green Gables.

Thanks for the compliment! I just adore good books & film and love period drama!

  3. Ann says:

Oh, my goodness, I am so sorry to hear of your accident!! I hope you heal quickly, and I hope the unbloggable crud gets resolved quickly, too. I have missed your usual daily entries (a lot!), and am thankful for the update.

Yay for friends with sewing machines! I am currently alternating between sewing a baby quilt and knitting a sweater for my mother. Creating things is such a joy!

    Warmest wishes.

    • Frugal Trenches says:

Creating is a joy but sadly I feel very inept most days!

Thank you for your kind words. I too hope the crud is done soon…

  4. Pat says:

    Dear FT,

I will be praying for you to heal quickly. Must have been one hard fall and a roll or two to do so much. Take care of the concussion…
Hope you could lie back and watch the Royal Wedding whilest recovering. Just a refreshing glance at the beauty and joyful occassion of life. Way to go for the Brits!

    Pat

    • Frugal Trenches says:

Thank you so much for your prayers Pat. I slipped on a waterbowl which made me slide in one direction but fall backwards. As I fell I hit my head on the pointed edge of a table. I honestly never knew you could do so much damage simply falling to the floor. My body is black with bruises!

  5. mochamelissa says:

Yikes! I hope you are on the mend!

  6. Oh my – it sure sounds like a rough week, but I hope that you’re feeling better, and that things get better soon. Sending good thoughts your way…

  7. Psychsarah says:

Oh dear-sorry to hear of your injuires. I hope you heal quickly,

  8. Joyful says:

The movie Jane Eyre was so good. I have seen it before with other actors but this version with Dame Judy Dench was best. Sorry you had an accident. Glad you’re feeling better.

    • Frugal Trenches says:

The BBC did a version in 2001 I believe, which was good too! Yes, Dame Judy is spectacular! I’ve never had any Grandmothers, but if I had one I’d want her to be like Dame Judy Dench!

  9. Stuiterbolletje says:

I hope you will get well soon after the accident. But I assume that your cats and dog will give you lot of snuggles.
And it seems that you still have had a lovely week. Enjoy your weekend.

  10. rachel says:

  11. JudyY says:

  12. Elizabeth says:

oh FT we just finished our Sunday lunch and I thought I’d check in! I’m so sorry to hear that you had such a hard time this week. Please do go easy on yourself and rest. Do you have anyone that could come over and cook for you and do a bit of housework? I know you’d do the same for your friends, maybe this is their turn to help.

Well my week was nice but I missed your daily posts, so selfishly I hope you are up to posting again soon!

As for the other challenge that is causing you a headache, I think it shows you are a writer and cope best when able to put pen to paper!

Take care of yourself and have a blessed Sunday!

    • Frugal Trenches says:

No, no friends who would help! But I’m OK with the place being out of sorts for a while!

Today was lovely, I’m sure all those prayers worked!

  13. Elizabeth says:

I also wanted to say maybe you could password some posts? I think you mentioned before that was an option?

    • Frugal Trenches says:

I do read a blog that does the occasional post as password protected, but it seems like the odd post gets through so I feel a bit uncomfortable!

  14. Kris says:

Praying for you and the overall STANK that messed up your week. Praying for quick recovery, and remember that all setbacks are just temporary! Take time to rest and heal, but you already know all that. <3 <3 <3

  15. Liz says:

Sorry to hear of your accident – I hope you’re soon fully recovered.

  16. Val says:

Yikes! Hope you are feeling right as rain soon. Sounds like a nasty accident!

    • Frugal Trenches says:

It was a silly accident. I’m still in awe of how much damage was done by such a seemingly innocent fall!

  19. kathleen says:

Ouch!!! Poor baby. You’re in my thoughts and prayers…as usual. :)

    kathleen

  20. Lora says:

Oh my, what a nasty accident indeed! I hope you get well soon, FT! *hugs*

  21. M says:

Feel better FT. I find it upsetting that you don’t have friends like you, having said that I really do think you are a rare jewel and I would imagine because of your incredible moral character and faith you live a lonelier life than most simply because most people are selfish and like it says in the post above, they talk the talk but don’t walk the walk.
