Help A Family Friday – China Kidz – A Christmas Project!

I am so excited about today’s post because I’m hoping as a community of readers we can become involved in a fabulous project crafting to bring hope & warmth to babies with nothing!

Two wonderful friends of mine run a fabulous organization called China Kidz. “ChinaKidz provide specialist children’s palliative care services for abandoned children and a community care service to families, aiming to support them and avoid the pressure to abandon their sick baby/child”

Quite honestly they do the work of angels here on earth caring for orphaned children who have life threatening medical illness’; you can read some of the stories of the babies in their care here. The vast majority of the children they find are rehabilitated and thrive!

I came up with an idea recently, that we as a community could  knit, crochet, sew or purchase a few small items for these babies, kind of like a Christmas Angel program. I was given permission to write about their needs so my idea is…

1. I have a list of all the babies and children they are currently caring for.

2. The very real need is warm sweaters and leggings for the babies over the very very cold winter as well as toys.

3. People can volunteer to craft or buy and I will match you with one of the babies in the orphanage. I’ll give you their age and approximate size and hope to include a picture of the little sweeties you are personally helping!

4. Projects begin :)

5. I will provide the address to send the parcels (remember sweaters and leggings are very light so your parcel costs won’t be large) and we can bask in the knowledge that a sick and medically fragile orphaned baby has a toy and warm clothes over the winter period :)

It doesn’t matter if you are a good knitter or can’t knit at all. It doesn’t matter if you can only afford to spend a couple of dollars/pounds on a pair of leggings. Honestly I used to become paralyzed thinking I couldn’t do enough, the reality is *I* can’t, but I can do something. You are just as important if you can knit one sweater as someone who can knit a hundred. You are no less worthy to participate if you can only buy a little toy, then if you can buy ten. To a child with nothing, one toy can make all the difference in their development, one pair of leggings can keep their legs warm, one sweater can make them sleep better at night.  Simple steps really do change lives!

My goal is that we as a community of readers, see these children through the winter period and that this becomes a rolling program which grows each year! There are orphanages with over 1000 children, can you imagine the work of clothing 1000 children with warm clothing? It’s a mammoth task, but I believe when people personally become involved, understand how they can help and do something, the goal of clothing 1000 children is possible!

Sound super? I think so! Are you willing to help a little sweetie this winter? Please leave a comment on this post if you are and I will email you personally!

PLEASE PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LINK TO THIS POST FROM YOUR BLOG AND SPREAD THE WORD! THIS PROGRAM REALLY WILL IMPACT THE LIVES OF THE MOST VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN SOCIETY.

Thank you for your heart for the precious children who have been orphaned my friend.
When I think of our Isabella waiting for us in an orphanage and it won’t be until Jan. that they will let me come for her….. my heart breaks, yet I have seen pictures of her orphanage and while it is what it is… I do find comfort in knowing that she has much more than oh, so many. Count me in. We are still at 15,000 short to pay for our adoption so I won’t be able to do much but I should be able to come up with a few things.
    God bless you sister,

  93. Kimberly says:

An Li Wong. My angel baby. I used to sit and hold her as long as they would let me. In the busy bustle of the hospital nursery in Tianjin, China I could just love on her. I would have taken her home with me if I could. They day she was gone broke my heart. Transferred to the orphanage never to be seen by me again as foreigners were not allowed in. I still wonder about her all these years later. I can still see her in my mind’s eye-both of us watching her play with her fingers in the air like a little bird’s wings in flight-longing to be free.

  94. miss robyn says:

if you still need help.. let me know.. I am so willing to help these sweet little angels. xo
