Blueberries Galore

There are 29 pounds worth of blueberries sitting in the kitchen, any ideas/recipes/suggestions as to what to do with them? Right now, I’m just eating them fresh from the basket…

What about blueberry jam? I don’t know how to make it myself, but would love if you made some and shared the recipe!

LOVE blueberries! You are going to be so very healthy and anti-oxidized. :) Love it!

Scones are a great idea, also freezing some for during the year and blueberry jam is a must – beware your hands will turn blue!

Freeze them for a bit of summer in the winter! Just need to pop them into containers and into the freezer. I also jam them and make blueberry syrup. A pie would be lovely….

  7. Kay says:

Freeze them, make blueberry jam too!! :) yummm!

I love frozen blueberries in my smoothies and can drink them everyday for the rest of my life! :)

Blueberries freeze beautifully and are great for baking all winter long. We love blueberry muffins and blueberry pancakes. You can also cook them with a bit of sugar and add arrowroot or cornstarch to make blueberry syrup.

Add a handfull to your pancake batter….yum!

Definitely freeze some. If you lay them out on a sheet pan and put them in the freezer, then as soon as they are frozen transfer them to a freezer bag or container. This way you can grab a handful and measure easily rather than having them all frozen into one big lump.

Blueberries freeze well and then you can use them for whatever you want. Cherrie

We just finished our blueberry harvest here…I don’t even know how many lbs. we picked there were so many. It is a tradition to go to our nearby Upick blueberry farm every July. We freeze most of ours, and eat them fresh, and make muffins, and the raw blueberry pie recipe I have on my blog is so good, you will never want traditional pie again. I am also going to try a zucchini blueberry bread tomorrow. With the ones we freeze we use all year in the breakfast smoothies I make often. We also put them on our oatmeal. Blueberries are so delicious and healthy, one of my all time most favorite fruit!!! Enjoy!

I have found that to freeze them, you don’t need to freeze them on a sheet first. As long as they are dry when you put them in the container, you’ll be able to take out what you need. They go into my oatmeal or brown rice farina year round.

I was recently directed to the link below when asking a very similar question (North American blueberries also grow very well in Dorset, UK, so we have LOTS in our fridge and freezer too).

I particularly recommend the blueberry & ginger icebox pie, which was gobbled up in seconds by my relatives yesterday, including two people supposedly on diets :)

I freeze them in 2 cup measures. I make oatmeal blueberry muffins a lot. I’ll send you the recipe this weekend if you like, I try to make them very healthy. The muffins freeze really well.

omg let me send you my mailing address. I can totally help you out. Also, be careful if you eat TOO many – they are rather high in fiber, I learned ;-)

If you insist on not-mailing them to me, definitely freeze most of them! You can have blueberry goodness into the winter! I tend to double-wrap the freezer bag to protect the berries, but it’s not that necessary to parcel them out. They freeze well and don’t stick together or anything.

Some of my fave blueberry recipes:

http://community.cookinglight.com/showthread.php?t=61704 (this is the better homes & gardens blueberry crisp recipe – a total winner every time)

If you MUST go savory, this looks really interesting http://www.shutterbean.com/blueberry-corn-salad/

Definately freeze them! And you can use them in smoothies (with some coconut or almond milk and ice and maybe banana- mmm), or put them in your oatmeal or whatever cereal in the morning.
