A New Daily Routine…

As you know, I’ve recently moved countries and am now trying to establish myself here as well as find a job! I have set many goals for August and it occurred to me while thinking about how much needs to be done, that one area I have the potential to fall in is the lack of a routine. I have to admit, I generally live by more of a rhythm that a routine, but as I’ve likened this month to training for a marathon, I think a little routine is needed. I also have a very exciting reason why I need a job as soon as possible (as in yesterday) so the reality is, I need to give a significant amount of time to a job search, in fact I’ve decided to treat it as a job.

My new routine Monday to Friday is going to look like this:

  • 6:00 – 6:35 – Up, prayer time, bible reading, eat breakfast, tidy bathroom & bedroom
  • 06:35 – 7:20 – Walk to swimming pool
  • 07:20-08:10 – Swim, change, shower
  • 08:10-09:00 – Walk home
  • 09:00-12:00 – Blog post, emails, job search
  • 12:00 – 12:20 – Lunch, quick tidy up
  • 12:20-1:30 – Walk to gym (10m), gym (45 min), walk home (10m), visit library on way home as needed, usually 1-2x a week
  • 1:30-5:00 – Job search
  • 5:00-5:30 - Bible Study
  • 5:30-6:30 – Dinner prep, dinner, clear up, sweep floors, tidy lounge area
  • 6:30-7:30 - Any extra job related search/prep, anything extra blog related, emails
  • 7:30-8:30 – Walk
  • 8:30-09:45 – Read, phone friends, write letters etc
  • 10:00 – go to bed!

As for the weekends, Saturdays I plan to go to the gym, job search/prep for 2-3 hours and then spend the rest of the day exploring my new surroundings. Sundays will be simple, relaxed and reclaimed so no job searching at all!

Now, this is only for a month and by then I think I’ll naturally fall into a new rhythm or have a job, but right now I feel I need a bit of structure. There will be some variation, one evening a week I will volunteer, one evening a week I’ll be attending a Bible study and one evening a week I’ll get together with friends [plus there will be lots of time for friends at the weekends!] I do know, that training requires a lot of time spend practicing so this month it feels like this is a realistic and good base to set the foundation for the future!

    Hi FT,
I’m just recently trying to catch up with posts, and I’m a bit confused. It seems that you started a job, then went to volunteer for a bit, came back and now have moved again. Am I correct? I never read that you had left your new job so I must have missed something. Maybe you could do a bit of an update round-up post?

I hope this change brings you lots of happiness. Whatever you choose, you are young and able, and it’s good to experience such life things while you can. Sometimes life brings one things like health changes and financial challenges as I’ve experienced and live with, so such things are not always possible. Enjoy and live your dreams as you can!

I must have really missed something in your posts. What happened to your new job a few months ago? Where are you now?

Busy times! I hope job-hunting goes well and you find something perfect for you quickly!
(also, gotta say, in awe of your exercise commitments! My current new-routine is 30 minutes a day, and even that’s pushing it some days…laziness thy name is Rachel… ;) xxx

    Dear FT,
It seems I and most of your readers are a bit confused right now with this move!!
Would you be so kind te reveal a little about it?
    Thanks,

I agree too! What happened with the new job before the volunteering!? You’d just gotten it, no? We’re all so confused.

This is so impressive, wow, that is a lot of exercising on top of the job of job hunting!! Wow!! I want you to know, that while I think it is great people are so interested in your life, I feel, as a reader you also have a right to privacy. I may have mentioned something in another comment I wrote but I think we sit behind a computer knowing so much about other people’s lives but they know nothing about us, so I always think writers have the right to pick what they tell us. Anyways, you didn’t ask my opinion but I thought I’d throw my 2 cents in!!

    So happy for you FT!!

    Yes, we’re a little confused FT : )

  8. Congrats on the move and feeling back at home! It must be exciting and I’m sure the right position will open up. I’m glad to see you approaching the job search as a job, as it does take a lot of searching, tailoring resume & cover letters, making networking contacts, etc. But I know the right thing will pan out! I’m looking forward to seeing your new adventure–you’re gonna have to update your header to say Canada rather than England now :)

I really like that you walk so much. Walking is the best exercise you can get, it is my favourite way of “transportation”. It annoys me when people say they have to drive because they don´t have tim to walk, but they always have lots of time for TV, internet etc.

I love that you have a daily schedule for yourself! When we’re all moved & settled i’ll be making a daily schedule for myself/kids like this too! I find i’m much more productive when I know what’s “next”. :)

I could and do learn a lot from you! I think that I like to think I have a schedule but honestly it is probably far too lax and I’m bad at filling my time without using the tv or computer. I really like that you set aside time for reading, which is something I neglect a lot. Just adding it up now, that is a lot of exercise!!

HI, i really enjoy reading your blog. I think routine life is better than non routine. I have not made any routine for myself but after reading your blog i am also planing to make one routine. Routine life help us to perform every task properly and in time. I really like your schedule which you have managed for reading, phone friends etc which is something most people neglect. Thanks for your post.
