Thank you to everyone who kindly commented and emailed me about helping an orphanage with some needs they have. A few people asked about shipping, there are two options, one is to purchase the very light things they need like socks for the babies, (especially with winter approaching) or to give directly through their website and then they can use the money as needed! I know they need to purchase some medicines and vitamins and obviously have ongoing financial needs to feed the babies in their care, so money is another great way to give!
I’m collecting everyones email addresses who said they were interested in giving and tomorrow I will email everyone with the address for shipping, the website for giving and a list of their needs. If you haven’t commented or emailed yet it isn’t too late, please feel free to leave a comment on the previous post linked here or email me at frugaltrenches @ yahoo . com [removing the spaces!]
I used to feel very overwhelmed at the needs overseas and felt like I could never do enough. I used to think about how I could possibly help when millions of babies are starving to death. I think sometimes we see needs locally and forget that in the world outside of our western comforts babies really do die from starvation, fevers, tummy bugs, ear infections. Instead of overwhelming me now, I know through small actions we can all make a difference; socks keep babies feet warm when the winter sets in and there is little or no heating, food allows orphanages to feed babies who are abandoned, small amounts of money buy antibiotics to treat childhood illness we don’t even need to worry about in our priviledged existence. I have seen the power and transformation which comes from $5 spent on a collection of old second hand books which provide entertainment and education for children, the difference a $3 bottle of baby pain medication brings, I have seen babies thrive and gain hope through tiny actions that come about from small donations – when you have hope, there is always a future, always a solution. I am happy that so many people reading this want to be part of the solution for a child who has nothing, not even a name. Thank you!!
