July is going to be a HUGE month here in the Frugal Trenches household! The goals for the month are:
- Gather six references
- Two telephone appointments
- Unpack from volunteering overseas
- Pack (!)
- Book the leap of faith “impossible” challenge Birthday gift!
- Get a plan of action together for August…(it’s when I hope the leap of faith results in the net appearing!)
- Get prescriptions renewed
- Go to the Dentist
- Get eyes tested
- Swim 25x
- Go for a 1 hour walk each day
- Spend some time with my niece
- Send a parcel to the orphanage I was volunteering at
- Begin a weekly post/series about volunteering/helping opportunities around the world
- Finish the my first knitted baby blanket and send to a friend who is due July 14th (pictures to follow!)
- Schedule four volunteering days in my community (weekends over the month of July!)
- Begin a knitting project to send hats and blankets to orphanages for Christmas/winter!
- Clear out all old paperwork so I only have papers from 2009+
- Get Criminal Reference Check
- Read Isaiah, Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes
I chose this picture as a reminder a big storm cloud may appear, but the sun will *always* be waiting behind it.
What are your July plans?

I have to say, I’m intrigued by the impossible challenge and leap of faith, and look forward to hearing more about it. Good luck with all of your endeavors (or perhaps “good faith” is more appropriate) for July.
Wow your list amazes me. I love how you sieze life and do so much for others. God bless.
Welcome back! From your list I can make a guess what you are preparing for, time will tell if my guess is right. I would love to hear about some of the children you tended to and what their daily life is like. So glad there are people like you out there that are so joyful to serve. I like your idea of posting volunteer activities. I need some ideas. God Bless.
Cathie I’ll do a post on daily life this month! Thanks for the suggestion!
Here’s to an absolutely fabulous July!! Can’t wait to hear more
xx
I, too, would love to hear more about you visit with the children.I had a pen pal of sorts once and I sent him money every month through what I thought was a reputable organization, but later found out it might not have been. I corresponded with the child from 3rd grade through some of his high school years, but sad to say, he dropped outin order to help the family more at home. I would love to be able to communicate with an individual child again, so that I could send them some little things to make their life more bearable. Possibly you could help “your children”get some type of sponsorship started for them. We’ll keep in tough.
Great idea Sue! I’m currently trying to put some posts together. I hope to get 1-2 a week done so people can help, support and experience the blessings I have!
Hello! I am writing in because I have been moved to tears by your bravery and generosity. To volunteer like you have done is an act of love, a precious gift. I live and work in India with marginalised communities and I know how difficult it is to come to terms with the rampant consumerism that has taken over our lives. I have seen firsthand how a little can make a big difference in the lives of many. I applaud you and hope the world has more people like you ,
Minhazz thank you for your kind words, honestly yes I did it in love, but truly I did nothing more than the children deserve, nothing that makes me special. I just had the blessing of being with these incredible children…these amazingly special souls!
Your website is fabulous!
Blessings!!
i’m so excited you’re allowing comments again! i’ve missed leaving them!! been reading you all along. glad you’re ready for the next chapter!
I’m glad you’re back safely and had such a rewarding experience. I’m also glad you’ve shared bits about it with us to bless us.
I look forward to finding out what your Impossible Challenge is! You’re inspiring.
I am awed by your generosity and doing what so many others only think about. Yes, I know you probably received amazing grace from the experience, but that does not lessen the compassion that urges you to help and try to alleviate suffering in this world. Even the suffering of “the least of these my brethren”. And you are also a wonderful model of goodness in action. Sorry for probably embarrassing you with these remarks, but I think they are true and I don’t think you will suddenly turn into a narcissistic person because of hearing them!
July has begun well for me. I spent Canada Day celebrating with my son and some dear friends. Reading posts such as yours helps me remember how BLESSED I am to be Canadian and have all of my basic needs covered. If only everyone in our country were fortunate enough to have a place to lay their heads, feel safe, warm and have food in their bellies.
This month I am focusing on me. I have to learn to put myself 1st and look after my health. I’m working hard at eating healthy, exercising and getting enough rest. I also want to create! I want to take lots of pictures and perhaps create a painting or two this month. I’m learning to slow down and enjoy each day. In doing this, I’m being kinder to myself and those around me.
Since I’ve been eating cleaner, I have noticed that my mind is fresher- I am thinking more clearly. I feel really good!
I love the idea of your knitting project. I don’t knit but I read a news article this past week about a group of seniors who were getting together at a camp ground over the summer and knitting blankets for seniors who are in hospital. I thought that was such a lovely thing to do. We need to remember that all people need to be cared for – young and old.
Sounds great Melanie! I need to be a bit kinder to my body, drink more water, exercise more etc!
Job and Proverbs are confoundedly similar in some ways. . .but both so toothsome
hope you enjoy it!
welcome back x i shall await an email
