A Good Morning Routine

Well today I should have begun my new job! There is nothing like work to get a person into a good morning routine! One area I really struggle with, is making sure I do not put the computer on in the morning before I’ve accomplished the basics and enjoyed some quiet time! Honestly, just taking 5 minutes to check emails pushes my whole day back, this is not a trap I want to fall into now that I’m working!

So my morning routine will be:

  • Wake up
  • Drink glass of water and spend time in prayer
  • Read my Grace Notes and daily Bible reading
  • Brush teeth
  • Make bed
  • Shower (if I’m not going swimming)
  • Get dressed
  • Go for a walk (if I’m not going swimming)
  • Have a healthy breakfast
  • Clean the kitchen, tidy bedroom, tidy bathroom (always trying to be 5 minutes from ready!)
  • Hair, make-up, brush teeth again
  • Leave for work!

What’s your morning routine?

Wow, what time do you get up to do all that?!

I’m definitely not a morning person. My routine is:

~ Wake up, watch 10 mins of the news while in bed
    ~ Toilet/shower/teeth/hair/makeup (foundation only)
    ~ Get dressed
~ Make lunch, if not done the night before
    ~ Eat breakfast
~ Give hamsters breakfast (popcorn, or a cheerio!)
~ Check email quickly while eating if i have time

    Wake up.
Hit the snooze alarm multiple times.
Roll out of bed and make it behind me.
    Brush teeth.
    Shower.
    Put on makeup and jewelry.
    Dress.
Grab an iced coffee or breakfast drink for the road.

Those are my work days. The off days are much more lazy relaxed.

  3. Kathryn says:

    Up.
    Emails.
    Brush teeth.
    Shower.
    Dressed.
    Make up.
    Emails/Internet.
    Leave.

Sadly I don’t take time for quiet/meditation/prayer like you do!!

  4. Judy Yates says:

Nowhere near as organised as yours! No real routine on days that I work at home but otherwise

    get up
    shower
    brush teeth
    blow dry hair
    get dressed
    make up
    get out the door!

  5. Jessica says:

I’m glad someone has a job! I no longer do. Hope your first day was awesome.

  6. Nicole says:

I get up,shower and get dressed, feed the kitties and then eat breakfast. I brush my teeth and fix my hair right before heading out the door.

I’m at work most mornings at 6:45 so I don’t have much time in the morning for reflection.

  7. Compact UK says:

wow, as the first person said, what time do you get up??? I’d be luck if I get all that done in a morning!

  8. Caroline says:

    Gym.
Feed the cats as soon as I arrive home from the gym (if not, watch out!)
    Make coffee.
Turn on computer (I wish it weren’t so, but it is).
    Shower.
    Check email, blog, etc.
Spend way too much time in the closet (I’m trying to pick out clothes at night, but doesn’t always work).
    Iron clothes (if necessary).
    Check email, blog, etc.
    Makeup.
    Make Lunch.
    Pack Bag.
Check email, blog, etc. – one last time.
    Vitamins and breakfast.
Off to the train to go to work.

I want to improve my morning routine- I’m always very slow up until the five minutes before I run out the door.
Wake up, make tea and get cereal (or grapefruit or porridge if it’s a weekend).
Read bbc, cbc news and then check emails and a couple of blogs.
    Get in shower
Have second cup of tea while doing hair, getting dressed and ready.
Put lunch in lunch bag and make travel mug of tea.
Run around like a lunatic while SO stands waiting to check doors, lights, electric blanket and straightners are locked/switched off.
I’m a little OCD about this and it’s what is stressful about my mornings. I may add working on this to my Plan Sparkle!

I’ve been rethinking my morning routine too! it’s hard living at home, my parents always put the bbc breakfast news on and i get sucked into watching it with them. starting your day getting frazzled at politicians and we’re-all-gonna-die stories of death and disaster does not make for a good one!
i am also going to try doing some form of excercise in the morning, i feel so much better when i do, and it takes the pressure off because it’s then done! ;)
hope hope hope your first day was good! xxx

  11. Teresa says:

As someone else commented, I’m not a morning person. I can’t believe how much you want to get done BEFORE work!! This is roughly what I do on a work day:
    Get up
    Shower
Blow dry fringe (the rest of my hair does it’s own thing)
    Breakfast
Tidy kitchen/put washing in or out (if time permits)
Get lunch from fridge (made the night before)
    Call son
    Make bed and get dressed
    Clean teeth
Put on a little make up (mainly concealer!)
    Leave for work.

  12. Carolyn says:

    Pray
Get up to make tea and get back in to bed.
    Talk to kids and husband.
    See clock and panic.
    Wash, teeth, hair, mascara.
    Chivvy kids (3)
    Feed cats.
    Straighten lounge and makes beds.
    Check kids have everything.
    Leave in a whirl.

  13. The Girl says:

    Alarm goes off.
Hit snooze every 10 minutes for at least half an hour, usually much more.
    Realise I’ll be late.
Rush out of bed and into kitchen to make lunch (if there’s even time)
Brush teeth and throw clothes on.
Put make up on (again, if there’s even time and if I can be bothered so this actually happens rarely)
    Pick up bag.
Get annoyed that I forgot to charge my phone/i-pod up overnight.
    Begin walk in to work.

  14. Jersey Mom says:

Very good routine! When do you wake up in the morning in order to do all that? I usually go to sleep early and wake up around 6:30 AM…

  15. lucid says:

What happened to your start date?

    My morning routine:

    * hit snooze 3x and eventually get out of bed around 7:05
    * brush teeth, wash up, comb hair, dress, etc.
    * pack lunches
    * out the door around 7:30
    * drop mr. c off
    * drive to work, sometimes turning off our beloved CBC to pray, sometimes just listen to CBC (sans the wonderful Andy Barrie! Though Matt Galloway is doing really well too!)
    * arrive at work at 8:00!

A very belated congrats on the start of a new job!!

I hate mornings, usually, so when the alarm goes off, I read some emails to get my eyes and brain working. I don’t respond, I just read. After a few minutes I give up and get out of bed but my “routine” hasn’t been set yet. It always includes finding the bathroom, getting dressed, and I’ve been remarkably good at including some form of foundation/lotion in the getting ready so far but I have a feeling that will fall off if I continue to be as tired as I’ve been lately.
