Drawing Near

Sometimes life gives you the chance to pull in, to spend a bit of time taking care, keeping home and resting, cuddled up with a blanket, a pillow, a good book and a kitty. And when your eyes become too weary from reading or um your body in a bit too much pain to focus (!), there’s always the Gilmour Girls to laugh with (if only it didn’t hurt so!) and the rain to watch.

Beauty in abundance!

I hope you have the chance to draw near sometime soon, it’s a very special place to be and oh so good for the soul! What are your special “treats” in times of rest?

My new post is up at the Simple, Green and Frugal co-op, I do hope you’ll share what you are reading; I’m looking for some new, good reads!

I live in Washington DC and most of the city was shut down last week because of snow. It was great to stay and home and putter around the house and curl up with the cat and some knitting or a good book. Although its nice to be back to the normal routine now, it was a great winter break!

I just checked out your blog on the other site. I’d love to hear what you think of Animal Vegetable Miracle when you are done reading it. I really enjoyed that book and I learned a lot from it.

  3. My “treats” during times of rest are books, naps, guilty-pleasure girly movies, and a hot cup of coffee or tea. I actually woke up with some nasty sinus problems this morning, so I might be doing some resting myself today.

I’m so sorry to hear that you are not doing well. I hope the pain goes away quickly. I just had a day like that myself a couple of days ago and I spent it in my pj’s with lots of tea and hot cocoa and quite a bit of time crocheting.

  5. The Girl says:

Get in to pjs, big wooly socks on, blanket over me, mahoosive big mug of tea and book (and a cat if we’re kitty-sitting).

I’m a winter lover – it’s too hot to do any of those things in summer!

    Is that the sea?!!!
    how beautiful.

Love Love Love Gilmore Girls! Hope you feel better soon! I will be praying for you!

So funny you mentioned the Gilmore Girls-I just discovered this show and have been watching every episode from the beginning on DVD. I recently watched 5 episodes in a row, ack! It really is a great show and gives me a little of the Anne of Green Gables fix I so need! I’ve been coming in from work, feeding the cats, throwing dinner in the oven (I freeze a lot of stuff that I make on weekends) and while I wait for my husband to get home I watch it. I’ll be bereft when I’ve gone through every season.

Ooh I hope you feel better soon.

I spent the day curled up on the couch or in bed napping after my dentists appointment yesterday- not a big deal but I don’t react brilliantly to local anaesthetic.

It was so nice to have a do nothing day, even if I wasn’t feeling the best. And I got treated to sushi for dinner!

I also often like to run a bath on days like this, it’s a great way to sit in silence and just think (or not!) for an hour.

    • Frugal Trenches says:

oooh Looby, hope you are all better soon ((((hugs))))

You know, I am so not a bath person anymore, but I may have to try one one of these days!

The sea is so beautiful in the the rain. TAke care and look after yourself, hope you are feeling better soon x

  11. MrsSmith says:

Be careful to stop watching GG before the final season, because otherwise you will just feel worse than you already do :(

Such a great show, and so sadly ruined when the creator left…..sigh….

    • Frugal Trenches says:

oooh MrsSmith, thanks for the tip! I had a look at the episode guide (I’m on the second last season, season 5?) and I’m dreading season 6!!!!

I really hope you feel better soon – as lovely as an easy day of rest is, I know that not feeling well is still not a lot of fun. I’m really trying hard to remember that I need time to rest even when not sick, and I’ve been doing fairly well taking some time for myself.

I think I need a day like this today – I’ve been working hard and bad news has me stressed and uneasy, and I think a day of curling up and reading and just generally treating myself well is in order.

    • Frugal Trenches says:

Sorry you are having a hard time Jenn. I think you are right, when needed, treating yourself well is the perfect remedy!

  13. Sarah says:

I’m not reading anything at the moment – I just finished Dewey, and I’m waiting rather impatiently for my library reservation of The Self Sufficient-ish Bible!

  14. asti says:

I do hope you are feeling a little better soon. take care x

  15. Aydan says:

I hope you get to feeling better soon! You’ll be in my prayers.

A treat for me is to be able to have a leisurely breakfast with hot chocolate and cinnamon toast, while reading a book.

  16. Kathryn says:

Hope you feel better soon FT! A treat for me is reading your blog with a mug of tea! :-)

  17. M says:
