Reclaiming Simple Sunday

I felt the need to make my reclaimed Simple Sunday be an at home day. There is nothing like slowly, quietly puttering around at home, with cups of tea on the ready and music on the go! After an early morning swim I arrived home to do nothing much: a spot of knitting, playing of the violin, painting the bathroom [egg shell blue], reading cooking magazines and recipe books, enjoying planning this week’s food for the soul.  There was a letter or two written, emails returned, the about section on this site updated [I hope you like!], Exodus read, prayers said. Tonight there will be a cherished radio program listened to, a new recipe from Olive tested [yes, for those who emailed asking -  it is perfectly possibly to try new recipes on £20 a week grocery budget, more on that later] and apple crumble made for friends.  The only low point was reading Living With Goats via amazons ‘click to look inside’ feature and becoming so engrossed that I forgot they only let you read a page or two! Tonight the book will be added to the wish list – and I just may dream of pet goats.

It’s just beginning, but the sun is shining and I am mostly staying at home and puttering around. I will cook something for my son and me later on, and put away laundry, and probably go grocery shopping a little later on. I’m leading a part of a book discussion for D.E. Stevenson’s Anna and Her Daughters and just posted the second part this morning….It’s a calm and beautiful day!

I adore your photograph of the flowers (anemones? I’m not great at the names of them…) so bright and beautiful!! :)

Your “Simple Sunday” sounds delightful: my day was spent hanging out with friends and watching the end of the tennis on TV, then on various trains and automobiles getting home again…not so simple, but relaxing nonetheless. I lost myself in a good book, and enjoyed the view from the train window of farmland and fields and beautiful winter sunshine. I longed for walking boots and my camera!

lol Rachel I just call them tulips, shows how little I know!!! I too long for walks and camera, almost every day.

    • Frugal Trenches says:

lol I am going to have to email you a VERY funny story….I DID NOT KNOW IT WAS FROM YOU and all this time I’ve been wondering who….!!!!!

My goodness. Your Sunday sounds delightful but it sounds too busy to be simple. Oh I wish I had your energy :-) I am busy getting ready to leave the city for awhile. I will post some pics for you :-) Have a great week.

Your updated version in the “About” section is inspiring… I just admire your philosophy to life.
If possible ( I hope I’m not being cheeky) would you do a post on your inspirational journal, sounds a great idea!!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

    • Frugal Trenches says:

Thank you Jane, that’s very kind. Yes I will do a post on my journal. I’m just putting some extra touches on it at the moment, so I’ll try to get that done this week and get a post up in the next week or two.

Your day sounds lovely and relaxing.

We have been pottering at home and made it to a family day at our local reservoir. Just getting ready for the mad week ahead!

  7. Kathryn says:

I agree with Jane, absolutely inspirational!!! I too would love to see your scrapbook. I think spending a day at home is very enjoyable!

  8. Judy says:

A lovely day for you, and a lovely day for me with friends for birthday celebration (mine, so presents too!), a stroll around the town, and then home to leftovers and a quiet night in front of the TV watching tennis!
    Bliss!
    Cheers
    Judy

I tried for a more simple Sunday yesterday which mostly worked out for me. I went to a hot yoga class in the morning, picked up some fresh fruit, smoked fish and organic meat, went home and baked banana choc-chip muffins then prepared a meal for my family. All at a slower pace than usual. I find it difficult to do less but appreciate it when I do.

hello! What nice sunday. Mine didn’t quite turn out that simple. Turned out I worked yesterday, then had to catch up on all chores today….will not do that again! Thanks for the reminder. Goats! Ours are dairy goats. We have 2 Nubians and 2 Nigerian dwarfs. I have 2 does, and I have not bred them yet. My goal is to breed my cute little nigerian dwarf. Then I will have kids and milk. My friend has a male with blue eyes. I need to get them together. The problem is, I can never tell when she is ready to be bred. With the baby, I haven’t been able to spend a lot of time outside with the goats. I need to get her bred soon, because I really would like some early fall kids! You need to come visit our little farm!

After we buy our property we are going to have a goat and a cow! You can come visit. One day it’s my dream to have horses.

I had a nice long nap after a busy weekend with my sister-in-law’s in-laws and nephews birthday.

    Take a look. :)

P.S. How are the books? Enjoying them? I hope so. If not that’s no problem either.

    • Frugal Trenches says:

I’d love to visit, that sounds wonderful Jessica! The books are at my friends (she’s storing) but so far, the one I started was fab! I’ll head over to your blog today!

Your photos are always so sunny and full of life, it really cheers me up, being stuck in gloomy North West! Thank you :)

Pleased to see you had a fulfilling and relaxing day.
Clare had a link on her blog to an Americian site which has ‘how to’ videos posted on it which helped her teach herself to crochet. I’m still practising the chain stitch.
