Forty Days of Prayer and Fasting

This year, I want to really work on my self!  There are some attributes, character qualities and fears I have, that need changing! I have made choices which deep down show I’m not keeping my eyes on the Lord and I’m not trusting Him.

There are situations in my life right now where I currently need some guidance and faith; one example is deciding where to apply for jobs/grad school and actually getting a job! Similarly there are things in my personal life I feel called to, but I need to know whether what I think is happening is happening, or at least be able to simply trust fully and completely! I hope this time also gives me a chance to really pray for friends who are in need and consider how I can better offer my help and support!  Finally, there are some very incredible needs in the world right now, people in need of water, protection, those suffering in war, abuse, poverty, and those who deserve kindness, food and love!

I will, of course, be eating! I will be fasting from food for one meal per day and spending that time in prayer! I will also be enjoying a homemade smoothie for one meal per day, and going without caffeine for all 40 days! I am also fasting in another areas of my life (a fast can include giving up tv or computer etc) which in many ways is harder than going without a meal! But, it is also a physical reminder of why I’m doing this! :)

Fasting isn’t for everyone, it is certainly a journey and not one that should be undertaken lightly! I was encouraged by Linny over at A Place Called Simplicity to look into the Biblical reasons for fasting! Over the course of several months I’ve done small fasts and feel ready to do this! Please remember to consult your Dr if you are going to fast!

I’m not sure how I will update on this, perhaps once a week or so, but if ANYONE reading this has any prayer needs then please leave them in the comments or email me :)

Oh and by the way, I failed completely on Day 1 (the stories I should share are quite hilarious!), but I’m moving on with one foot in front of the other and day 2 so far has been pretty amazing!! :)

Wow! I usually do this to some degree during Lent. Good luck and I will be praying for you while you devote so much time and energy in bettering yourself and working on your relationship with Him. I think I might take a lesson from you – as if I don’t learn enough already :) !

all the best on your fast. The few times I’ve fasted with purpose I have found some truly unique answers to prayer.

WOW! Pretty much all I can say. You just continue to inspire, especially in how much less self oriented you are than others!
