Strategies For Drinking More Water!

Lately I’ve been quite terrible about drinking water and I notice incredible changes, I’m more dehydrated, my skin is worse and I’m tired & hungry a lot. Last Friday I decided enough was enough and I was going to do whatever it takes to remember to get my 6-8 glasses of water a day! I didn’t care if it added a bit more money to my budget initially because I was willing to spend to save (in the long run if I can get back into drinking water that is by far the cheapest drink and the most healthy too!).  So here’s the tactics I employed Friday afternoon and honestly I haven’t looked back!

1. I put a sign on the fridge reminding me to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day

2. I made a little tick list in my day planner, so I could cross them off!

3. I admitted I struggle to drink water from a cup so decided I would purchase a pack of 24 bottles of water (again, this is not something I would normally do, but wanted to do whatever it took to get me back into drinking water!). I found a sale on a pack of local water sourced bottles and take out how many I need each day (2 – then I reuse them three times each before recycling).

4. I then went to find a natural water bottle that I can fill myself, this will save money and is healthier than drinking out of plastic. There is money in the budget next week to purchase it, so I will do that next week!

5. I began to take a water bottle to bed with me, drink it first thing in the morning, even before I get out of bed!

6. I take a bottle of water with me everywhere I go!

I started this on Friday and I can not believe the difference! Initially I had to keep reminding myself, but now it is easy I don’t even have to think about it! I would not normally spend money to purchase water, but this tiny strategy has definitely made it easier for me to get back into a healthy routine! In my mind that is $2.77 well spent!

Last summer, we bought ourselves and the kiddos reusable water bottles, and it has been the best move. When we are out especially, everyone drinks freely because we know we aren’t having to pay for it. Plus the kids (and myself) loved picking out neat bottles. Great job on drinking more water.

I’m 28 weeks pregnant, and I’ve always had a hard time drinking enough water. My solution now is two refilable water bottles marked at 240z. I keep one filled on top of the fridge and I take the other everywhere with me. When one empties I mark off one square for every three oz on a chart on my fridge, that has enough rows for each day the month. Since I’ve been trying this, my wrinkles have faded. I also use a copy of the chart for my vit.

You’ll drink more water if you use a straw. It sounds weird but they’ve tested it. I tried it out and it was easier just to pick up my cup with straw and get a big old drink, then to have to constantly open and close a bottled water, plus the waste and cost associated with bottled water.

I bought a refillable insulated bottle that has a built in straw and I just keep it filled and with me. At home I have a plastic novelty cup that came with a lid and straw and I keep it filled and next to me. Not only will you save the plastic but it’s way cheaper to refill the bottle. (personally I filter my water (brita pitcher) and keep the pitcher in my fridge nice and cold, but I know some English refridgerators are small so that might not work as well for you)

This has been a wake-up call for me as I have also lately not been drinking enough especially when I have a busy day or am at work, I think your tips and motivational pointers are a great help and hopefully they’ll work for you, I also try and remind myself to have a drink everytime I go to the loo (after of course not during lol!)

I recommend the Klean Kanteen water bottle. It’s made of stainless steel, so won’t leach anything nasty (such as BPA) into the water. I have two of them — one I leave at work, and the other I bring with me when I am away from home or exercising.

If you don’t feel like drinking water all the time, drink herbal tea or green tea sometimes. They are still giving you fluids.

  7. You know, I drink a ton of water, but I didn’t used to and every once in a while I’d just get flat out dehydrated. Miserable.

I just made a point to have a water bottle– a big one, something like 1.5 liters–and drink all the water inside 2-3 times a day.

Now that I’m in the habit, I get really thirsty when I forget to drink or don’t have time. Your body will adjust fast if you start drinking more. The trick is to get started.

I don’t drink enough water, you have prompted me to try harder, and not to forget to drink.
