Accountability

One of the good things about having a blog is accountability. For example, right now I want a hot chocolate, in fact I’d go as far as to say in my weaker moment’s you may have heard me mutter I need hot chocolate. But the reality is I don’t, so I won’t. Only I might have to keep visiting this post to get me through today!!! How many hours left until bedtime?!

  1. I really like the idea in your post before about buying a gift card and only being allowed to spend that per month on coffee/hot chocolate. I have a huge Starbucks habit that is sending me to the poorhouse! I tried going no Starbucks in general, at the moment my self imposed rule is only if I am meeting a friend for coffee, not just running through the drive thru because I am out. I may have to morph into the pre-set monthly spending limit though!

  2. I have a massive diet coke addiction.

Trying to give it up has been so hard. I’ve cut my consumption down by 50% this last 2 weeks, but the caffeine withdrawal headaches have been awful.

So I’ve failed really – wanted to go cold turkey but it was unbearable. Keep going FT :-) – although have to say I didn’t think hot chocolate was really bad for you or expensive……?

  3. I have the same thing with cake, but only in certain locations and certain cakes. Like the scones from the cafe in Queens Park, or a croissant in Pret a Manger or from the Real Patisserie. Or anywhere where i know they are good……

am doing ok re cake habits at the moment. but am not listing things on ebay like I said I would!

    good luck with your resistance

  4. I’ll be with you there right soon. Lucky for me there isn’t enough milk for one. LOL Cherrie

  5. I like the idea of your blog making you accountable. I’m toying with the idea of starting one myself, partly because of that very thing – although there are so many bad habits I’d like to break and new things I’d like to try that it could end up being a very random affair. Then again, it might help me bring some focus to my randomness. But do I want that? Oh, who knows!

  6. I am the same way with coffee.

I love good quality coffee. But no way i’m going to buy take away coffee’s so what I do is that I’ve got a caffitier (is that the right spelling?) and some italian Lavazza ground coffee and I make my own in work, saves ££££’s.

Any chance you can do something similar with the hot chocolate, can you buy some nice quality stuff and cream etc and make it at home?

  7. I loved your idea to give myself a gift card for my fancy drink obsession. It is my weakness. Every morning on the way into work I walk by Bea and she and I chat and often I get a Chai, or next month a Chai Nog. I could certainly make it at home and bring it in my travel mug, but sometimes I just want to chat with Bea and purchase a Chai or Chainog. My new trick (although maybe I will get a Spin Gift Card from one of my bosses) is to not carry my debit card. I find when I carry my debit card I use my debit card. So from now on I will have an emergency $10. If I can make it through the whole month with that $10 then I will allowm myself to spend it however I want, Chai, lunch out, brow wax…
You can get through today without the Hot Chocolate, really you can.
