Let’s start with the shop, shall we? We. Shall.

This week’s shop at Sainsbury’s came in at £22.20 = $30 US or $39 Cdn. This is for 2 people for a week, plus I’m making 3 meals for people (2 for a couple I know because the husband is having surgery and another meal for a lady whose just had a baby) on top of that I have a friend over for dinner this week! So all in all I think I did pretty well :0)
I purchased:
- Economy pack of courgettes aka zucchini
- Chicken drumsticks (needed a quick dinner and this is much cheaper than take-away and relatively healthy as I grilled veggies and made a salad!)
- 8 Fairtrade bananas
- 2 Ethically sourced Salmon Fillets
- Weight Watchers yogurts
- 1 Fage yoghurt (my favourite, but at £0.89 per pot, it is a treat :0) )
- Large mango & orange juice
- Oranges
- Onions
- Salad mix
- Leeks
- 2 packs of chopped tomatoes
- 2 tins of beans
- Grapes
- Butter
- Laughing Cow cheese
- Crumpets
- Small pack of mince
Breakfasts:
- Porridge with fruit x 2
- Cheese with fruit x 2
- Smoothies x 2
- Yoghurt with almond butter & fruit
Lunches
- Homemade leek & potato soup with fruit x 2
- Salads x 2 with smoothies
- Falafel with homemade hummus & carrot sticks
- Peanut Butter sandwich with grapes & yoghurt
- Tuna sandwich with apple slices
Dinners
- Homemade chili x 2
- Chicken & veggie stirfry
- Falafel with homemade hummus, carrot sticks and cous cous
- Stuffed courgettes with 3 bean salad
- Baked potato with tuna salad & peas
- Pasta with homemade tomato sauce and salad
Here’s a sample:

And the announcement?
Well remember how I….
- Got out of debt
- Built my emergency fund
- Started looking for a unique aka cheap living situation
- Decided I would start looking at ways to step off the career ladder?
Well, I’ve done it. I’ve officially resigned from my corporate job. Gone are the 16 hour days, the 6-7 hours traveling to meetings. Gone are the early morning flights and eating 3 meals a day at my desk, in meetings or in the air. It wasn’t an easy decision. There are many many times I questioned whether it was the right thing to do, but in the end it came down to this. I, my body, my mind & my soul are worth more than the corporate world.
I’m back blogging now. And future posts will include what I’ll be doing instead.
For all of you in debt, for everyone who wants to get out of the corporate 9-5 world let me tell you it can be done. We don’t have to stay on the treadmill forever. It is hard, you have to have dedication but you also have to really prioritize yourself and your family over money. I could of stayed until I had £20K or £50K saved, but I would of been less of the person than I am now and it came down to being a compromise I wasn’t willing to make!
Thank you for all the encouraging emails and comments. I’m doing so much better and feel so much better. And just think how much more time I’ll have for blogging and arranging the meet up in June. Details to follow :0)

Wow, but not surprised.. Good on you!
that is FANTASTIC FT! congrats!
thats great news! t.
Congratulations!
I’m a relatively new visitor to your blog and have spent time reading through all the old posts which has given me lots to think about and refelct on what I want from my life.
Inspired by you I have also just started to sponsor a child in the Sudan.
Thanks for sharing your journey.
Lisa
well done.welcome to the ‘new you’.
Great! Now I am so very anxious to find out what you’ll be doing instead. Sadly I can’t quit my job but I am working toward it.
What a huge relief this must be for you … well done … hope you are feeling heaps better too.
Look forward to your posts with interest!

Congratulations!
I did this in 2006 and have no regrets whatsoever. Life is so much better when you can actually live it
I love your food pics, I should post mine too…
Take care!
You’re so brave to do this now! Congratulations on having the strength to follow your convictions
GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!
This is definitely worth a – Congratulations!
I look forward to more posts!!!
Well done FT, way to go!
Congratulations for being brave enough to be different. That quality is so important as living correctly is not the way of the majority of mankind but it takes a lot to go against peer pressure. I am sure you will succeed at whatever you choose to do – you have already shown that you can. Cherrie
Yay that’s wonderful! Good for you! I did a similar thing a few years back – stopped working full-time, took on a part-time job and studied part-time (a yoga teaching diploma) and took on an allotment. It was a lovely mix and just getting out of the full time fast track professional work really opened my eyes to what living fully is about! Things got a little bit off track after I emmigrated to Canada with my husband but it’s still something I am reworking towards – to have the freedom to shape my own life and balance work with having a life. I’d love to hear more about what your plans are now ? I hope, whatever they are, that they go well. One thing I have found is that whilst I occasionally miss the financial security of my old professional life – I do not at all miss the way my life was then! I hope you find the same
Oh, how exciting for you (and congratulations!!)! I can’t wait to hear more about your home adventures.
Congratulations on your news! I think that you made a good decision. Good health is worth more than any amount of money.
I am glad that you are back to blogging; you were missed. Best wishes to you. The adventure begins.
How wonderful! Congratulations on your decision. That would be frightening for some people, but I can already tell it’s made a world of difference to you.
Congratulations on your decision. Looking forward to hearing what you are going to get up to now.
I’ve been reading quietly for a while now, and just wanted to say that you inspired me to focus more on actually getting out of debt instead of just talking about it. DH and I finally paid off the last of our credit cards last week, and it feels really good.
Good For you FT, well done ! I know exactly how you feel about everything you have talked about in this post – I am just about to do the reverse ! After stepping off pretty much the same roundabout as you , I am having to climb back on ! Himself’s job is so precarious at present ( building) and we need to clear off the debt that we have (some of it NOT ours) that I am having to go back to full time work – up early, home late, nights in hotels and thousands of miles a month……….I really really dont want to go back, but I have to try and stay focussed and positive and use this chance for the opportunity that it is – - if we can both cope with it.
Good luck to you for whatever you do next xxx
WOW! Congrats!!! I too have just freed myself of the corporate shackles. I am now officially a writer/traveller/all-round bum. ha ha. We won’t have much money, but as ‘Canadiansaver’ said, life is so much better when you start living it. Mine has been a long process, from the office to home, from home to taking work on the road and it has been wonderful. But now I have decided it’s the right time to travel a bit more but without the constraints of corporate stuff. Obviously the decision was taken from me, but I’m starting to believe that it was for the best. Well done to you and I look forward to lots more inspiring and wonderful posts
Hi there-fabulous news my dear and now you’ve taken that big step you WILL make it work-well done!
Excellent news! You’ll have so much fun ( I hope) when you all meet up in June. I’m sure your going to start feeling much better soon too!
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sighed a sigh of relief for you! I thought WOW! How blessed you are and fortunate to be able to make this happen. You have worked so hard to achieve this goal and you DID IT!
I’m so happy for you! I’m looking forward to reading all about your future plans.
So happy to have you *back* with us! and happy you are feeling better.
*HUGS* Mel

How wonderful, FT. I’m very glad for you and I too feel that this is the right decision. What are you plans now?
Hope that your feeling really better now and that you can enjoy the sweetness of spring!
Well good for you!
Can’t wait to hear about life in the uncorporate world.
Unfortunately, I cannot leave mine, but at least I really like my job in cancer research. So, that is a plus. But, I know there is a day I look forward to stopping and living life a bit more freely.
Congratulations!!! Best thing I’ve heard all week, lovely! I haven’t for one second missed the stress of the job and I know you won’t either. I bet you’re walking on air!
Hope you’re feeling better physically too
Big hugs
x
Congrats! Can’t wait to hear about your adventures.
I love laughing cow cheese, mmmmm.

Flippin’ well done – life is just too short to be stuck in a job that makes you unhappy. I dropped out of working five years ago (only because we moved from one side of the country to another and I couldn’t find a job in our new place) and I’ve never been happier.
I did enjoy my last job (admin in a social services dept) but now I have time to really enjoy my life and do all the things I’d only dreamt of doing when I was working. Physically I probably work harder now than I ever did stuck behind a desk but I find the rewards of running a home, cooking from scratch and having the time to ‘stand and stare’ so much richer than a pay cheque at the end of the month.
congrats! mine was not corporate, but non-profit, but i have let it go as well. am settling in slowly to the new life. the world is at our fingertips!
