Well, now that I’m back I need to replenish my fridge and get the groceries for the week. I just got back from doing the weekly shop for the grand total of £14.85 = approx $27 US. I did my grocery shopping tricks and once again it worked!
I bought:
- 3 large runner beans (yes 3, should do me for 2 portions!)
- 1 organic orange juice on sale (1/2 price)
- radishes
- chantenay carrots (1/2 price)
- grapes
- 1 vegetable spring roll
- red pesto
- salad (1/2 off)
- Museli muffin
- Lemon
- Orange Pepper
- Aplro chocolate soya milk
- Heinz baked beans
- 2 baking potatoes
- organic falafel
- punnet of plums (1/2 off)
Planned Meals:
Tonight: Pesto on pasta with cut up carrots, side salad of lettuce, radishes and grapes with lemon dressing
Rest of the Week:
Vegetable spring roll, baked beans & salad
Bulgar wheat with runner beans & carrots
Falafel with left over beans, baked potato and salad – I have enough to have this twice
Puy lentils with brown rice & frozen broccoli
Pesto pasta with frozen broccoli
Homemade carrot & lentil soup with baked potato and pepper on the side
I’m hoping I can make it through to next Thursday before having to do a shop again
Daily Tracking:
Before my holiday I had 11/20 no spend days, over my time on holiday I managed 3 no spending days
so my total right now is 14/20
I won’t make my goal for this month and I’m OK with that. I set 20 no spending days for August before I knew I had this free holiday (aka house sitting) opportunity. I should get to 18 no spending days over the next 4 days and I think that’s pretty good!
Just thought I’d answer a question I’ve gotten from a few readers, the question was whether I spent so little on groceries because I get lunch @ work or eat out a lot. The answer is I pack my lunch every single day with ingredients from home and eat out no more than once a week!

Hi there-thanks for stopping by with your lovely comment! I admire your eating habits-you are a great inspiration for eating healthily on a budget!!
I should start planning my meals too – it will save me from supermarket scrambling and afternoon headscratching.
Hi Frugal Trenches,
Just wanted to drop in and say hi , I love your blog. I mentioned it in my blog as I thought it was a great idea about “no spend days” and am trying to do that myself as I think its a great idea. My blog is http://www.sensiblespender.blogspot.com

Thanks Mrs Sensible Spender!
you should learn how to make muffins.. theyre dead easy, dead cheap, and freeze well
mmm! your menus always sound so simple and delicious. i notice that you don’t have any “snacks”. do you not snack? what if you get hungry? do you just wait it out ? i am amazed with your discipline!
Sarah muffins are my weakness…..!!!
Neiman
I try not to snack at all, but if I do it is only fruit or veggies for example grapes or cut up carrot sticks!
