No Spending: 10/20 – Woo Hoo 1/2 way to my goal, and to think on Day 1 I really didn’t think I’d be able to stick with this!
Well, today is the last instalment!! I’ve really enjoyed this process and am always happy to answer questions!
So, here you go!
Breakfast: Homemade fruit salad – grapes & kiwi fruit, simply fabulous!!
Lunch: Leftover brown rice with puy lentils and courgettes/zucchini, 2 apricots on the side!
Dinner: A wonderful homemade mozzarella and tomato basil salad, with a baked potato and grilled lemon green beans! Finished off with a nectarine!
Water all day!
So:
Veggies – green beans, courgettes/zucchini and tomato (yes, I still know it’s really a fruit!:0)
Fruit – kiwi, grapes, apricots, nectarine
Protein - Lentils, mozzarella
Dairy/Calcium – mozzarella
Grains- rice
This has been a really good process and let me see where I go wrong and could make improvements! I’m actually toying with the idea of making September a vegan month – meaning no animal products. We’ll see if I add it to the September goals! I still have a lot of food left from my £14.49 weekly shop! I will certainly be bringing food with me on holiday!

Thanks for doing the five-day food diary, I’ve found it really interesting and useful.
I’ve enjoyed reading this, thankyou! It has inspired me to look at my own diet and see what I can improve, not just for the pennies but for health as well.
I’m living my vegan diet vicariously through you
Would you belive spell check actually caught vicariously didn’t have a clue how to spell it, gotta love spell check!
Congratulations on your no-spend days!! And I’ve really enjoyed reading your food diary
It’s amazing how healthy you eat (and how little compared to North Americans!!)
You are doing fantastically! I am in awe of how motivated you are – which in turn motivates me, so thanks!
PS I’ve added you to my ‘roll.
Great series! And inspiring too. So, I’ve been meaning to ask (if it isn’t too personal) – I notice your grains amounts are pretty small (1-2 servings). Do you have an allergy?
your meals sound so healthy and delicious. courgettes are such a cheap and nutritious veg, just wonderful! i buy them and cook with them a lot , especially at this time of year. i only WISH i liked eggplant, which is similarly priced right now and very abundant. but i don’t
groceries are cheaper for those who aren’t picky, and mostly, i’m not.
oh p.s. you got me inspired to cook bulgur wheat. i had never tried it before. i made a pilaf with bulgur and lentils and courgettes
mmm!
