Day 1 can be found here
No Spending: Today was a no spending day – 7/20 which means I’m right on track!
Food Today:
Breakfast: I had my wonderful muffin (oh was it gooood!) with 2 apricots and a glass of water
Lunch: Tuna with tzatziki on a whole wheat roll, carrot sticks with tzatziki to dip, 1 kiwi fruit and my calcium soya chocolate drink!
Dinner: I made a stir fry with tofu (cauldron marinated pieces – used about 1/4th of the pack!), with leftover spinach rice & green beans. Salad on the side. Water. Grapes to finish!
All Day Long: Water – probably had 8 glasses already and imagine I’ll have another 2 before bed tonight!
So:
Veggies: 3 servings – carrot sticks, green beans, salad/spinach (was a small amount so would only count as 1 portion)
Fruit: 3 servings – apricots (2 = 1 serving), kiwi, grapes
Dairy: Tzatziki, Soya Cocoa drink (which is calcium fortified and Omega 3&6)
Grains: Whole wheat roll, whole wheat muffin (with pumpkin seeds!), brown rice
Protein: Tuna, Tofu and Tzatziki (the three T’s!)
Feel healthy & full which is good. Although as I’ve been watching the Olympics today I keep thinking about what great shape those athletes are in and feel pretty ill!

Well done for having such a healthy diet. I really can’t believe how dedicated you are. I honestly don’t think I could do it. Don’t get me wrong, my diet (for what it’s worth) is very healthy compared to that of some people I know who still insist that they find it difficult to fit in their five a day while they’re perfectly able to fit in biscuits, cakes, crisps, chocolate and the rest, but I do ‘have’ to have a few indulgences now and then. But as we’ve agreed before, life is basically about balance.
You, my dear, are one very dedicated and strong-willed lady. All kudos to you
You know its funny Sharon, before I started on this downshifting, less consumerism journey I honestly don’t think I had good self disciplin. If I wanted something as I passed a shop I would find it hard very hard to say no, not so much for big things but cheaper things like magazines, cards, necklaces etc. This downshifting has really really given me self control and I think the no spending days have taught me this lesson and made me practice it 5x a week!
Thanks for the compliment! It really helps me stay motivated to keep on track!
You eat a really balanced diet, it really makes me see where we go wrong I think we totally eat too many carbs. Thanks for posting this it is giving me ideas about how to improve our diet.
p.s. looking at those amazing bodies competing makes me want to puke at what I did to mine!
Snap, I also had stir-fry with tofu this week (there’s nothing like salads/stir-frys/homemade pizza to use up leftover bits of food is there?).
Yes, please do ping over a link for that US urban gardening site, I’d be really interested to see! I have no outdoor space to grow anything either but I’m told you can grow strawberries on windowsills….I don’t know if I’ve missed the boat seasonally (I suspect I have) but I might give it a go….
J x
Yeah, you do eat very healthily…
WTG on the no-spend!
the pepitas on the muffin count as protein too! though prob not a full serving.
i love how healthy and delicious this sounds. though i will admit that i would need more calories – i’m a big eater! but i’m starting a food log, so i could be wrong about how many calories i think i need… we shall see!
Thanks CanadianSaver, if I can make sure I get 5 this week too then I’m really really on track!
Annie I can relate!!
Deepali it just shows how everyones body is different isn’t it? I have friends who eat healthy but eat so much I would be sick and would be a lot bigger than I am now! Metabolism…..sigh!
Well done on such great self discipline! the food sounds delicious btw I’m going to make us a stir fry tonight now!
Thanks for all your healthy & balanced menu planning ideas – it’s so easy to lose sight of what our body needs vs what our mind thinks our body wants.
I admire your self-discipline!
Likewise I admire your self-dicipline but also can relate that it becomes part of changing who you are and the path that you’re on. I’m headed to the supermarket tonight (I’m still a far way off from you) but have decided that food is the next challenge in my budget/minimizing my life so have taken some tips from you!
Catz have a great stir fry! I love them!
Kerry that is so true, my mind/heart tells me I *need* cupcakes, but I know they are probably the LAST THING my body really needs….sadly!
Savings not Shoes – glad I’m not the only one! I do think this whole path has made it possible for me to change my shopping habits.
Good luck tonight @ the supermarket!
