Goals For July Revisited!

Well, when I set these goals I was hoping and praying I could do it! I’m happy to say, I met every single goal for the month!!

1. To have 18 no spend days – Accomplished 21 days no spending!

2. To make sure I get 5 fruits and veg a day for cancer, diabetes and heart disease prevention – we owe it to ourselves and our most certainly our children! – Did this every single day! A few people have asked for recipes, I’ll share my favourite frugal vegetarian recipes this week!

3.To spend no more than £90 = $180 on food – spent £82.75/$173.50 on groceries for the month!

4. To max out my ISA for the year – I opened an ISA account @ 6% and have been putting money in since May, including all money owed to me by my previous employerDone, my ISA is full with £3600 in it!

5.To open my emergency account in an ethical account – Done

6. To have £1000 = $2000 in an emergency account by July 31- Done, I have £1000 in my ethical emergency fund

7. Finally…..to pay off the final money owed to my credit card and make myself debt free!!! I can officially announce, that I have paid off the final installment of credit card debt!! This bill was £2089 in April 2008 and I originally thought it would take me a year to pay off. With extra work, frugal living, increasing my confidence to ask for reduction in interest and money back from my grad school, I made it! I just noticed that a bill (storage) was charged to my card, so need to switch that to my debit card and as of now, I won’t be using my credit card except for flight purchases which I will then pay down in full when the money is due!

What a difference 3 months makes…

April 2008 – £2089 credit card bill, peanuts in savings

July 31 2008 – £4600 = $9200 in savings, no debt, a pension being opened as I type and it feels great!

Thank you to everyone for the encouragement and support!

Congratulations! You’ve done so well :)

Things are moving far slower with me because I don’t have much money to work with but I can’t remember the last time I felt quite as good as I do knowing that my debts are shrinking while my savings account balance grows. How I ever thought ‘stuff’ could make me happy is a mystery.

Nice work, that’s an amzing effort in such a short period of time!

  6. congrats! what a great result in just 3 months! i like how you balance your financial goals with quality-of-life goals- well-being isn’t just in the bank, it’s about the food we eat, the time we spend with friends, the ways we spend our time instead of losing it in mindless tasks. I think this is one of my favorite things about your frugality blog- the benefits of frugal living are really something besides a growing number in the bank. :)

  9. Congrats! I found your blog through No More Spending and totally love it! I, too, started my blog this spring and live in England but used to live in North America. I love finding other blogs about England to compare ISAs, pensions, high street banks, sales and the like! Keep on going! Great progress! -SNS
