Downshifting in London and Daily Tracking

All my regular readers know the plan is to downshift. While I can’t physically do it at the moment – single, 1 wage, building savings- I’m starting the downshifting plan with a change of attitude and actions, so that once I can physically move there will be no shock to the system. Downshifting is, after all, a journey – emotional, mental, physical and most likely spiritual.

So here I am in London on a Sunday. A friend came over and I resisted the previous temptations of ordering pizza for us, having a lunch out, or even ordering expensive food online as a treat; instead we sat and chatted right here @ home with a plate of watermelon to share!

I resisted the urge when my friend offered to pick up something on route or get me the papers – no, instead I can read online and enjoy my big basketfull of books from the library, with plans to knit this evening! The old me would have probably spent £40/$80 over the weekend, enjoying a tea or coffee out, picking up something new, enjoying a meal out, the new me has no plans to make weekends into a spending spree!

Yes, downshifting really does start with a change in attitude!

  1. downshifting or leading a simpler life is all about a change in attitude.
my change in attitude came with my debt lightbulb moment and, give or take the odd naughty spend, I’ve been a different person since. My life seems so much easier now that I’ve lost the urge to own the best handbag in the village!
    well done to you :)

  2. Well done! Changing your attitude is the number one most important part of downshifting.

Like Laura, it was my debt and the realisation that all that spending wasn’t making me in the least bit happy that triggered my change in attitude. I’m far more contented now and wild horses wouldn’t get me to go back.

  3. I’m looking forward to reading all of your archives. This blog looks very interesting.

  4. Thank you Nichole

I couldn’t agree more Laura and Sharon
